Patio Cover – St. Louis

In this job the client had just installed a beautiful pool surrounded by brand new concrete. After everything had been completed they decided they wanted a Suncoast Enclosures patio cover next to their new pool. The only problem is local code requires all patio covers to have footing piers extending below the frost line for snow load, wind load, and seismic stability. Unfortunately, no footings were added before the concrete was poured. With their brand new concrete still curing we had to come up with a solution.

This is where American Ground Screws came into the picture. Ground screws are essentially giant screws which take the place of concrete footings. Rather than coring the existing concrete 8 inches and having ugly concrete piers stick up above the brand new concrete we were able to core smaller 5 inch holes that our 6×6 posts would cover completely. Our structure would then seamlessly sit on the new concrete and look like it was meant to be there. The screws we used were 4 inches wide and 60 inches long. This gave us the strong foundation to build on so this couple could enjoy their outdoor patio cover while having the peace of mind that it was fully up to code.

However, only 1 month after building Chad & Britta’s back yard patio cover we received a call. We had installed 2 retractable screens on their patio cover, enclosing half of their new cover with 95% density screens. Their goal with the screens was to block the setting sun and allow for a bit of visual block from neighbours and the nearby thoroughfare.

The call we got. We need more screens. They loved their enclosed space so much they wanted to add two more screens to enclose the entire area. They knew the screens would do a good job of blocking the sun, but they didn’t know how much they would love the privacy the screens would give them. Their outdoor patio cover became their space to escape outside, and adding additional screens to enclose the whole space was needing to make that feeling complete.

A month later, after we installed the new screens and were doing a final walk through with the client, the only question they had was “Can we get a quote to add a louver with 3 screens over our hot tub”.
